Texas Trivia: The beautiful Texas Bluebonnet aka Lupinus texensis is the state flower but you will also find the other three growing in the state.
Bluebonnets start to appear around early March to mid-April or sometimes a little later depending on spring temperatures.

The longhorn
Texas Trivia: The Texas longhorn is a mixed breed of Spanish retinto and English cattle.
Other states found the longhorn’s traits of long legs, hard hoofs, resistance to disease, fertility and ease of calving attractive resulting in the longhorn being traded out of Texas and across the US.
By the 1920s, the longhorn was nearly extinct until a small group of men created a refuge park to save them.

Texas Trivia: Texas had previously requested to join the Union but it was knocked back.
The Mexican-American War started in 1846, the following year after Texas joined in the union.
Texas leaves the Union to join the Confederate States of America in 1861 and is readmitted in 1870 after the American Civil War.

This was two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on 1st January 1863.
Juneteenth is also known as Freedom Day and is the oldest African-American holiday.
In 1980, Texas made it a state holiday and in 2021 it became a federal holiday.
